What should I expect after booking my appointment?
After you book and pay for your appointment, you will get a confirmation email sent to your inbox. Within 48 hours (or sooner, depending on how soon your appointment is) you will receive an email from your Therapist to discuss your upcoming appointment and go over any questions you might have.
How does the videochat work?
At the time of your appointment, log into your account on the Airapy website and go to Appointments. Next to each appointment is a button that says "Open Videochat." This opens the chat in your browser window. The videochat works best on a desktop computer using the latest version of Chrome, Firefox or Safari.
What is your cancellation policy?
Where can I meet with my Therapist?
A park, coffee shop, shopping mall, a private office, online... anywhere! The therapists on Airapy offer a variety of options, and all Therapists and Clients have access to our secure videochat.
Can I meet my Therapist at my home?
If you and your Therapist decide that meeting in your home is beneficial for your treatment, that is something you may discuss with them.
How will I find my Therapist for our first meeting in a public location?
First, take a look at their photo on their profile page to get a sense of who you might be looking for. If this is a real concern please discuss it with your Therapist before your first session.
What happens if I see someone I or my Therapist knows while in public during our session?
During your first "walk and talk" therapy session, you and your Therapist will set some ground rules and discuss how you feel most comfortable approaching a situation like this.
I've never been to therapy before, what can I expect?
Each session is tailored to the individual Client, but here's a general overview of what to expect during your first session:
- You and your Therapist will go over the norms and guidelines of therapy
- You may be asked to share your expectations of therapy and your goals
- Your Therapist may ask you about your personal history and current situation
- Be open and honest about your feelings
If I'm meeting my Therapist at a coffee shop, how should I go about ordering?
If you plan on ordering coffee or a snack during your session, you are responsible to pay for yourself and to make sure that you complete this process before the start of your session. Sessions will not be extended because of ordering time.
How long are the sessions?
Generally therapy sessions last between 45 and 50 minutes.
What if I get emotional in a public place?
If you think you might feel uncomfortable being in therapy in the Therapist's available meeting locations, please ask your Therapist about other options when they reach out to you. If you decide to cancel the appointment at that time, you will be fully refunded (see cancellation policy FAQ above).
How much does Airapy cost?
Each Therapist runs their own private practice and sets their own rates for different types of therapy. You can see each Therapist's rate clearly stated on their profile page next to their photo. There are no additional costs, surcharges, or fees for Clients. You only pay for the appointments you book through the website.
What is the benefit of therapy outside an office?
There are many reasons why someone would choose to try "walk and talk" therapy:
- You can meet in multiple locations, increasing access and convenience for both Therapists and Clients.
- Some Clients, especially those new to therapy, might feel uncomfortable in an unfamiliar office with a new person.
- Some people enjoy exercise and moving about, while others enjoy the visual stimulation of being in an alternate location.
- See more about walk and talk.
Can I use insurance?
Currently the Airapy website is not set up to accept insurance. However, we are planning to incorporate this feature soon. If you are interested in checking back in with us at that time, please sign up for our email list.
I'm not sure if I'm connecting with my Therapist, can I change to someone else?
Absolutely! Having a Therapist you feel comfortable with is incredibly important to the process and it may take a few tries to find the "right fit". Oftentimes a client knows if a Therapist is right for them after about two sessions, but it may take you a longer or shorter amount of time. Be patient and honest about your feelings!
